- Citizen Journalism and the Parallel Market of Information in Zimbabwe’s 2008 Election « Journalism Studies – Dumisani Moyo analyzes instances of citizen journalism during Zimbabwe's 2008 election. He posits that in the absence of reliable professional news sources, a "parallel market of information", analogous to a black market for goods, evolved, marked by rumour and speculation. Moyo defines citizen journalism broadly, including not only blogs, but also SMS. He gives examples of SMS being used to mock the political system and president Mugabe, as well as to convey updates on election results; blogs are described as conveying personal, emotional takes on the situation. Moyo also finds that traditional media take cues from citizen journalists for their own work.
